Fellowship & Community
At Gator Wesley we’re always up for a good time AND free food! We have a Facebook group for all of the official Gator Wesley events and announcements here and a Gator Wesley After Hours Community Board to post on if you randomly want to do a pick up game of ultimate frisbee or you want to see a $2 movie at Gator Cinemas or if you want to go thrift store shopping…. Fall Festival- November 18th 6 pm – 1o pm
We are so excited about this year’s Fall Festival and hope that you will join us! There will be live music, with a caller to lead us in a series of line dances and square dances. Tons of food for everyone to enjoy and desserts for all. (Also, a dessert competition so if you have any good recipes, make sure to bust them out!) A hot chocolate and apple cider stand and, amazingly, a local blacksmith has agreed to stop by make some pieces for us! And to top it all off, a giant bonfire and a hayride around the property. For students, we are asking everyone to bring some cans to donate to our local food pantry. As for alumni and family members, we are asking just for a $10 donation to Wesley to help pay for the festival. The event is held at Fair Oaks Farm- 7726 SE 179th Place Evinston FL 32633.
Coffee House- December 2nd- Featuring Tone Def!!
We host a monthly Coffee House where we partner with different musicians and groups to have a featured artist as well as an open mic. It is a really chill, mellow atmosphere and there’s always different coffee drinks, baked goodness, and coloring books.
Join us each Sunday after worship for a free lunch. It is really a great way to get to build community as we eat together.
Every semester (including summer!) we have intramural teams competing and having fun. We have played flag football, soccer, softball, basketball, ultimate frisbee and we have had students participate in individual and small team sports like tennis. This is a great way for us to fellowship, get some exercise, show the campus we have a Christ-like attitude in all things, and it is an easy event to invite your friends.
We have tailgates for every home Gator game!
We interact with both campuses when we host awareness events such as the SCREAM Theater from Rutgers University through their skits on sexual assault, during National Hunger and Homeless Awareness Week through our Faces of Homelessness Panel and the Stop Hunger Now Meal Packaging Event, as well as our focus on human trafficking as part of our Love Campaign bringing in speakers from International Justice Mission.
Gator Wesley is a part of the CMC
The Campus Multi-Faith Cooperative (CMC) is organized to provide a network through which campus ministers can work together. Gator Wesley is a recognized member of the Campus Multifaith Cooperative (CMC). That means we are recognized by both the University of Florida and Santa Fe College as a safe group and our pastoral staff meets monthly with other CMC members to create educational opportunities and fellowship between the groups. Membership in the CMC is open to professional or to specific, designated leaders of religious organizations ministering to the University of Florida.
The Love Campaign
Our primary annual campus outreach event is the Love Campaign. We head out to campus around Valentine’s Day to ask the question, “What is Love?” In asking this question, we are able to have conversations with our fellow students, learn about their perspectives, and share with them about the love of God.
We also show God’s abundant LOVE for both campuses throughout the year as we give out hot cocoa during the Winter and Study Snacks on Exam Days.
When we do the “Brain Food” during exam time, we attach this prayer written by our faculty advisor Doug Johnson.
Lord, help me on this test today.
I do not ask you to give me answers, or to tell me things I do not know.
But Lord, I do ask you:
Help me to remember the things I have studied; and help me to recall the things I know;
Help me to think clearly, that I may figure out problems and make connections to recognize correct answers before me;
And help me to write effectively and communicate well to show my understanding of the things I have studied.
Lord, I am here as a student because I believe this is the direction you have called me. So help me to do well and to work hard that I might be faithful to that calling and to you.
