An important part of our faith is putting it into action to serve those around us. Gator Wesley offers opportunities to serve locally in Gainesville, around the state of Florida, all around the US and internationally.
Local Service & Advocacy
Over the past few years we have been involved with local organizations such as the St. Francis House, Bread for the Mighty Food Bank, Trinity UMC’s CHEERS program, the HOPE Lodge, Grace Marketplace, Peaceful Paths, Habitat for Humanity, the Humane Society, Adopt a Street Clean Up, Relay for Life, the CROP Hunger Walk and the L’Arche Community in Jacksonville.
Gator Wesley hosts National Hunger and Homeless Awareness Week events. Stay tuned for our 2016 dates.
State & International Service & Advocacy
Gator Wesley has taken trips to Branches Florida City and Branches South Miami. Gator Wesley has also participated in the Florida Annual Conference’s Imagine No Malaria. You can donate to Imagine No Malaria here. Gator Wesley last Fall hosted a “Wesley Walks Worldwide” and learned more about the countries (Angola, Cuba and Haiti) that the Florida Annual Conference is in relationship.
United Methodist Seminars on National & International Affairs
United Methodist Seminars on National and International Affairs or the Seminar Program, provides custom-designed, interactive educational seminars throughout the year for groups to study complex social issues from a perspective of faith. Gator Wesley has taken seminars on intimate partner violence, on homelessness, and on human trafficking.
Spring Break Mission Encounters
We try to take trips each year to share the love of Christ with people through service and listening to stories outside of our immediate community. Gator Wesley has taken encounters in the past to South Africa, a Choctaw Reservation, the Hinton Rural Life Center, Pura Vida Missions in Costa Rica, ReCreation in Asheville, NC and this past year we took two trips: Cange, Haiti and Branches South Miami.
