New York Seminar Trip

The New York Seminar trip is back and we’re opening it up to everyone this year!  It will take place from August 11th-14th, 2014.  We will be staying at the Alma Matthews House (owned by the General Board of Global Ministries and the United Methodist Women) and on two of the days, the 13th-14th, we would be doing a seminar with the United Methodist Seminar Program. They are sponsored through the General Board of Global Ministries and the United Methodist Women and are housed in the Church Center Building right across the street from the United Nations. I have taken many, many groups to their seminars over the past 9 years and it’s a program that I love!

We have not decided on the seminar topic as of yet, but I’ve been connecting to Jay Godfrey one of the seminar designers on several topics that I think that students need to engage.  Past topics include:  Intimate Partner Violence, Immigration, Race and Urban Poverty, Gentrification, Inter-religious Dialogue, and Human Trafficking.

We’ve estimated the cost of the trip to be around $750 to include travel, housing, seminar, select meals, a show, and a metrocard. The grant we have gotten from the Lilly Foundation will cover part of the costs.  If you register by June 1st AND pay your deposit, it will only be $350.  Any time after that until June 16th will be $400.  The deposit will be $175 for both the June 1st and June 16th deadlines.  As we have people sign up, we’ll post more specific info about airfare and shows.
